Glamrock Freddy VS James P. Sullivan | (Five Nights at Freddy's VS Monsters Inc.)
Death Battle Prediction:
Glamrock Freddy VS James Sullivan
"Everyone carries around their own monsters"
- Richard Pryor
Freddy Fazbear, the animatronic superstar from Five Nights at Freddy's.
James Sullivan, the admired top scarer from Monsters Inc.
Sometimes, life takes us through unexpected paths during our lives. Such is the case with these two very prominent figures of their fields, as they had their lives turned upside-down when they became accidental guardians of human children, going through many hardships to protect them and, in the way, uncovering the dark conspiracies of their employers.
But is Sulley going to shut down Freddy's spotlight? Or will Freddy take Sulley's title as the king of scares? Come get a Pizza The Action as we analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
Before All Else
This matchup should be pretty straightforward in regards of the material used for both characters.
For Freddy, we'll use the mainline FNaF games and any novels that may apply to him or the other glamrocks.
For Sulley, the 2 movies from the Monsters Inc. franchise, the short films, the official comics and the Disney+ show will be included.
As you can see, we won't be using any non-canon material like Kingdom Hearts, Disney Infinity, or any other games for Sulley, the same way we won't use FNaF World, FNaF Security Breach: Fury's Rage, (or Guilty Gear) for Freddy.
And yes, there will be heavy Ruin spoilers.
You have been warned.
Background
Glamrock Freddy
It's been years ever since the last incident involving Fazbear Entertainment. It looked like the tragedies were finally going to be forgotten, like Henry envisioned.
Unfortunately, the company refused to die out, like a persistent disease that continues to terrorize multiple generations. They came back with full force, creating their most ambitious project yet. Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex. A gigantic shopping mall. And of course, with a new restaurant, must also come a new lineup of animatronics.
Cue in the new and improved Glamrock animatronics. This time, the lineup of the Fazbear band included Roxanne Wolf, Glamrock Chica, Glamrock Bonnie, Montgomery Gator, and of course, Freddy Fazbear, in his new Glamrock variation.
Freddy led a life full of concerts and birthday parties, beloved by many, but hated by those who hadn't forgotten the company's past. Following his daily routine until one night, where his life was completely, irreversibly changed.
The last concert of the night was interrupted by Freddy glitching out and going blue screen in the middle of the stage. When he wakes up, he notices something unusual. A kid in his birthday cake hatch, named Gregory. Throughout the night, Freddy would assist him, helping him evade his fellow band members and the security guard and part-time serial killer Vanessa as they hunted the child.
After many misadventures and situations of child endangerment, the duo would find out the culprit who laid below the Pizzaplex. The one who planned all of this. He, who always comes. The man behind the slaughter.
Somehow, Afton returned.
Freddy and Gregory eventually see themselves in a final confrontation against Vanny, Vanessa's alter ego and avatar for William's new Chat GPT form. When all hope seemed lost, a vengeful spirit comes to help, defeating Glitchtrap in his own technological domain and freeing Vanny and the other animatronics from his mind control. With Afton defeated for good, the trio leaves the Pizzaplex. Freddy is free to enjoy his life with Vanessa and Gregory, peacefully watching the sun rise, knowing the nightmares are finally over.
James P. Sullivan
James P. Sullivan was born on August 17th, the son of the famous scarer Bill Sullivan. This gave him a big ego, which he carried with him to Monsters University.
Sulley spent most of his time at MU slacking off, not taking scaring seriously. But when he was expelled from the scaring program, he realized he needed to change his ways. Meeting another expelled student, Mike Wazowski, they decided to join the Scare Games to get back into the class.
Mike helped him to become a better scarer, and they ended up becoming friends. That friendship was tested, however, when Sully rigged the games so that Mike would win.
Mike was heartbroken, and he ran away to the human world. Sulley followed him and they talked about their problems. Sulley admitted that he was afraid he couldn't live up to his father's legacy. With their problems behind them, the both of them prepared the biggest scare ever seen, powering a door and getting a chance to return to the Monster World.
Once they returned, they were caught for cheating in the games, and decided to join Monsters Inc. in the mail room. Sully worked hard and with Mike's help and coaching, eventually became one of the best scarers, much like his father.
One day, Sully accidentally let a human child named Boo come with him to the monster world. He was scared of the consequences at first, but he eventually bonded with her and helped her to get back home.
On the way, Sulley discovered that his boss, Mr. Waternoose, was planning to kidnap children and drain them of their fear to prevent the energy crisis. In an event that reminds us that this film is fictional, Waternoose is arrested and punished for his actions. Sulley revolutionized energy production in the Monster World by using laughter, which was much more intense than other emotions, instead of fear, and such a brilliant idea helped him become the new CEO of Monsters Inc.
However, deep down, he was not satisfied, since he didn't get to give Boo a final goodbye. That would change, however, when Mike shows that in secret, he had found the pieces of Boo's door, destroyed to prevent Waternoose's plans. Once rebuilt, Sulley got the chance to hug Boo one last time.
Experience and Skill
Glamrock Freddy
As the main star of the pizzaplex, Freddy has a lot of experience with children's parties and rocking 'til the sun goes down with his band, but that comes at the price of a severe lack of combat applicable experience, always either refusing to fight back or resorting to simply pushing others. He seems to be connected to some sort of search engine, and his spatial awareness and memorization skills are unmatched, knowing every single inch of the Pizzaplex like the palm of his paw.
James P. Sullivan
Sulley was experienced as the Top Scarer in Monsters Inc, and before that, one of the best team members in O.K, as he was coached by his best friend Mike Wazowski, working hard to practice scaring techniques and eventually make it to the big leagues in Monsters Inc. His stealth capabilities are unmatched due to his training, being able to sneak around completely silently. And although he'd much prefer peaceful solutions, he doesn't back down from a fight.
Equipment
Glamrock Freddy
Claws and Fangs
Freddy can use his natural claws and fangs as weapons which can do quite a bit of damage, seeing how much Monty thrashed his room after acquiring his.
Lighter
Originally intended to light up birthday candles, this lighter is deceptively strong, being able to burn the entire Pizzaplex down to the ground in a matter of minutes.
Roxy's Eyes
"Roxy sees things differently than the others. This upgrade was meant to help her win races. However, there are some side effects. Sometimes she will stare and talk to the other bots through walls."
Differently from the other animatronics, Roxy's eyes have special capabilities, presumably meant to improve her reaction speed. With these eyes, Freddy could see others through walls and detect otherwise undetectable items, even bypassing Vanny's invisibility to animatronics.
Monty's Claws
"Montgomery's Claw upgrades allow him to play the bass. Following performances, he mostly uses them to cause damage. The fence repairs are getting costly."
Setting him apart from the others, Montgomery Gator has claws that grant him extra strength, tearing through steel chains like they're nothing.
Freddy's uses these to break gates and access inaccessible areas.
Chica's Voice Box
"Don't let her sing! Messes with the navigation of the other bots. Horrible results when she sang during live performance. S.T.A.F.F. bots dropping serving trays, chaos, guest injuries, 12 lawsuits. Experimental voice box test failed. Replacement advised."
Uniquely designed for Chica, this voice box is never used in regular shows, since the sounds coming from it stun those who hear it and make animatronics glitch. Freddy can use it to stun enemies.
James P. Sullivan
Claws and Fangs
Sully can use his natural claws and fangs as pretty handy weapons. Extremely effective for scaring not only children, but humans of all ages.
Axe
This axe is Sully’s most useful (and only lol) weapon. He used it to destroy The Master Door in a short amount of time.
Abilities
Glamrock Freddy
Animatronic Physiology
(Animation by EnchantedCoffee)
Freddy is an animatronic, thus getting all of the abilities that come from an inorganic physiology, like Self-Sustenance and superhuman stamina, not needing to rest until his battery reaches it's end. Comparing him to other animatronics, Freddy can stay active for more than 6 hours without needing to recharge. While during the events of the game Freddy needs an hourly recharge, this was due to the fact he was set to Safety Mode, which reduced a lot of his capabilities. Another perk from being a robot is his resilient immortality. Much like his peers, Freddy can keep on fighting under any circumstances, like Monty still being active after being torn in half, and Chica still working after being crushed by a trash compactor.
Fire Manipulation
Freddy can use his lighter to set things on fire. It's not as impressive as a flamethrower, but it does it's job very well. And considering the punch it packs, it's definitely useful in combat.
Sound Manipulation
The sound frequency from Chica's voice box makes those who hear it go into a frenzied state for a small amount of time, giving Freddy a few seconds to think about his next move.
Minor Technology Manipulation
Also with Chica's voice box, Freddy can use his shouts to hack electronic locks.
Enhanced Vision
Roxy's eyes have special properties as seen above, being able to detect hidden items and seeing others through walls. He's stated to be able to see new colors, which implies infrared and/or ultraviolet vision.
Resistances
- Layered Technology Manipulation: Resisted Glitchtrap's control, which controlled all other animatronics. And Roxy fought against Mimic, who makes nearby tech malfunction.
- Life, Death, Biological, Poison, Disease, Blood, Soul, Mind and Pain Manipulation: Via being an animatronic.
James P. Sullivan
Minor Fear Manipulation
Sulley has repeatedly been shown to easily scare humans of all ages, and even other monsters. He IS the Top Scarer, after all. It's only natural.
Enhanced Vision
Sulley has shown several times to have an enhanced vision, as he can see pretty well in the dark.
Fourth Wall Awareness
lol funny christmas commercial
Vibration Manipulation
His roars consistently shake entire rooms, throwing lighter monsters off balance.
Resistances
Cold Temperatures: Was stranded in the himalayas for numerous hours without any lasting effects

Weaknesses
Glamrock Freddy
Freddy's biggest quality is also his biggest weakness: his overwhelming kindness. While it may seem surprising, Freddy refuses to be like the older models who came before him, and avoids causing harm at all costs. That means that his battle experience is severely lacking. And although he can surely take inhuman amounts of punishment, destroying his vital components can easily put him down.
James P. Sullivan
Sulley doesn’t really have that many notable weaknesses, as he overcame his ego in Monsters University, and his fear of humans in Monsters Inc. However, he can be easily snuck up on and was nearly killed by Randall twice due to that.

FTL FNaF?
In the last issue of Tales of The Pizzaplex, during the Epilogue, the mimick performs a rather impressive feat. Getting inside a costume in a nanosecond. As you might have seen above, when calculated, the feat goes from 3 to 10 times faster than light. Freddy manages to scale, and even heavily upscale, because of the Ruin DLC. In a final act of selflessness, Roxy jumps in the way when the Mimic tries to attack Cassie, then fighting him for a short while to give the girl a chance to run away.
She is blind, she is broken, she is smaller, she took 20 minutes to get a forklift off of herself while the mimic shoved one with the force of God with one hand, and he can make electronics go haywire simply by being around them, if Roxy managed to fight Mimic with all this stuff going against her, then the fully functional Glamrocks should heavily upscale Mimic's speed.
We know that showings of this magnitude are unprecedented in the FNaF franchise, and that many may deem it an outlier, but we think the opposite. Glamrocks are the peak of technology in the FNaF world, so them having shockingly fast processing speeds is not all that outlandish. So, basically, while surprising, there really isn't anything wrong with the feat itself.
However, as it is a one-time instance, and might rub lots of readers the wrong way, this faster than light feat will not be used as the basis of any arguments, but instead as supporting evidence for claims.
Why use the novels?
We should not forget how active Scott Cawtthon is in the production of supplementary material for his franchise, and how much he values accuracy to the source material, evidenced by how many scripts for the FNaF movie he has pulled the plug on. Even if the story differs from the source material, several factors corroborate it's validity.
The fact the Charlie trilogy was co-written by Scott shows a greater level of authority and endorsement of the story. With the novels, Scott had a chance to reshape the plot and expand on characters who didn't have the means to get development in the main games (during the time the trilogy was released, all of FNaF lore was told by Atari-like sequences within the games). Scott himself has said that Silver Eyes is an alternate continuity to the main franchise, while this kind of statement is lacking for the Monster Inc. games.
But the biggest factor that justifies the inclusion of the novels is how they impact the games and vice-versa. The novels are not completely cut off from the games, as many elements of the novels would impact the games later on, or outright explain some of the plot holes from the mainline games, like how Remnant was introduced in Fazbear Frights #10, explaining how possession worked the way it did in the universe. Or how the name William Afton was introduced in the novels, and a few years later was confirmed as the Purple Guy's true name in the games. Or, for a more recent example, how Gregory's backstory is being explained in the Tales of The Pizzaplex novels, which have many showings of being canon to the games.
While using FNaF novels but not the Monsters Inc. games may seem like double standards at first glance, further inspection shows that these two cases couldn't be more different from eachother. This stance is shared by all blog members.
Further Updates: The Ruin DLC has just released, fully confirming the Tales from The Pizzaplex stories as canon, showing many of the attractions from the books in the mall, and in an even more interesting turn, The Mimic, main villain from the Tales series, has been canonized as the new villain for the rest of the franchise, after Glitchtrap's demise.
What about small city Sulley?
Alright, sit down. Let's talk a little bit.
Recently, in the Unofficial Death Battle Discord server, a calculation has surfaced that supposedly takes Sulley up to City level. For completion's sake, we found it important to give an explanation on why, after careful consideration, we think this feat is not at all valid.
The feat in question occurs in the final part of the movie, when Sulley frightens multiple police officers. The officers' screams overload multiple canisters, each of which is capable of holding a considerable amount of energy. This results in a final output of Small City level.
However, it is important to note that Sulley himself did not generate any of this energy. The energy was created by the collective fear of the police officers, not by Sulley's roar directly. Sulley's roar only served as a catalyst for the screams, after he had spent several minutes messing with the officers with Mike's help.
Furthermore, there is no way to formulate any scaling chains to make Sulley scale at all to this power output, as the energy generated by human screams of terror is not AP applicable, unless you want to argue every single human in Monsters Inc. is physically Town level.
While this feat seemed impressive at first, further inspection showed many holes in its logic that made it unusable.
What about town Sulley?
Alright, sit down. Let's talk a little bit.
Recently, in the Unofficial Death Battle Discord server, a calculation (2) has surfaced that supposedly takes Sulley up to Town level. For completion's sake, we found it important to give an explanation on why, after careful consideration, we think this feat is not at all valid. Wait a second… It's almost like we've done this before… Well, anyhow.
In the final battle in Monsters University, Sulley's roar shakes two rooms, and that would get town level at its epicenter (Sulley). problems with this feat come from overestimating the shaking caused by him, as it's not as impressive as it first seems. It relies on the fact that Randall was knocked down by the scream to attribute it magnitude 6, although Randall wasn't standing on the ground, he was sticking to the wall, and fell because shaking made him lose his grasp on it.
This feat also doesn't show any of the other effects caused by high magnitude earthquakes, like windows breaking and such. It also uses the earthquake formula, which shouldn't be used for such a small radius shake, further inflating the calculation. When using accurate values, the feat ends up much less impressive.

Hello, my dear readers. Before I start my verdict, I'd like to thank everyone who showed their support, may it be Nick who helped me research Monsters Inc, the people on Discord who shared some calcs for Freddy, or even you, who took time off your day to read my first blog. This was a really fun blog to research and write, and will hopefully be the first of many.
Glamrock Freddy VS Sulley. This has been one of my favorite matchups ever since Security Breach released, since this Freddy is one of my favorite characters ever, and Sully comes from one of my favorite Pixar movies of all time. One aspect of this matchup that I always saw as under researched was the debate part, because even though many people talk about it, no one really knew where either scaled. So most we got was like, Sulley winning because he ripped a steel door, while Freddy could only shatter steel chains, or people just straight up spreading misinformation, using made up numbers to give one character or the other the win. So I'm here to change that.
Now, enough talking. I don't wanna sound like a cooking website writer who writes 5+ paragraphs explaining their whole life before they even get to the ingredients. Let's get started.
The doors have all closed, but the stage has been set. So on with the show, no escaping it yet. The night is still young and the fun's just begun.
Stats
First and foremost, let's talk about their physical capabilities. Sulley has some great feats, like lifting the Scream Machine, ripping apart steel doors, and his room-shaking roar, but GlamGlam's feats and scaling consistently yield much better results than those.
Monty being able to hold the giant bucket with mild difficulty, even for a second, blows any strength feat Sulley has out of the water, without any competition. While the best you can give Sulley is scaling to people who can hurt him (0.002 tons), Freddy scaling to Montgomery Gator outshines that (0.01 tons), granting him the edge in strength.
Freddy's actually way faster than one would first think too, scaling to Moon's supersonic feat. That's made more consistent with him heavily upscaling multiple feats in the low subsonic range, where Sulley comfortably resides with his feat of catching up to a bus. And I don't find it necessary to mention how badly Mimic's feat outspeeds him.
Finally, Freddy is also more durable. Sulley surviving that door exploding was very impressive, but it still fell short of Glamrock Freddy's stats. Since AP = Durability unless stated otherwise, Freddy would have this stat by default.
Taking all of this in mind, it's easy to see that Freddy has advantages in all physical categories, and they're not light ones either. Freddy's scaling gets him more than 50 times stronger and more durable, and 15 times faster (134,216,177 times faster using the FTL feat), meaning our top scarer would have difficulty getting hits in, or even just keeping up with the bear. With that strength difference, a single punch from Freddy could mean lights out for Sulley, while due to the durability gap, Sullivan would find it hard dealing meaningful damage, even if he got the chance. Stats should comfortably go to Fazbear.
Arsenal and abilities
Now let's talk haxes, shall we? This won't be a particularly long section, since these two are a few steps away from being complete stat bricks. First off, neither of their resistances will be useful here. Sulley doesn't have any hacking abilities, and Freddy doesn't have a freezing ray, so those two factors are just moot.
Sad part is, Sulley's few abilities will mostly have no effect against Glamrock Freddy. His roar can throw people and smaller monsters off balance, sure, but Freddy is an animatronic that probably weighs more than one ton, and he's used to having loud sounds blasting around him in shows, so nothing Sulley can do will catch him off guard. Meanwhile, Fred brings to the table a few useful tricks, like the stunning sound from Chica's shout and his lighter, which has way more firepower than a regular lighter. With the voice box matching the roar in application, although with worse range, and the lighter being a way better offensive option than whatever Sulley can use, Freddy gets a pretty clear edge here, nothing Kitty can do.
Abilities aside, Sulley has an axe, which is better than Freddy, who has a grand total of zero weapons, however having increased range by a few centimeters at best is not enough to compensate for the Ls he is taking in the hax/versatility departments. Freddy takes this one, clearly.
Tertiary Factors
Here is the part where Sulley gets to shine. He has been in the scaring business for years, and has fought against multiple opponents, like Waternoose and Randall, in stark contrast to Freddy, who couldn't hurt a fly. When fighting Vanessa, a regular human, he was so inexperienced he thought the best course of action was to charge towards her ass and slam her down the building, which also killed himself in the process.
If considering skill and experience alone, Sulley would fold Freddy, although I'm inclined to believe Freddy is ever so slightly smarter, mostly due to his memorization of everything Pizzaplex, and that one scene where he pulls up the dictionary definition of a fountain instantly upon being questioned.
Sulley's years scaring children gave him neat little perks, like being surprisingly stealthy for his size. He can walk through a child's room without being heard and get the jump on those stupid little kids, so that looks like an advantage at first glance. However, that changes when we consider their eyesights.
Sulley can see in the dark well, but that falls flat when compared to Roxy's eyes, which can see others through walls, and are implied to be infrared or thermal. That alone nullifies any chances Sulley has of sneaking up on the animatronic.
And talking about "animatronic", this is the best place to talk about their physiology. While Sulley is a good fighter and went through hell to protect Boo, he's only monster after all. He still needs to eat, sleep, breathe, and can still feel pain and exhaustion.
But Freddy is a machine. He has no need for anything our biological bodies need to sustain themselves. He can just keep on fighting. Freddy is comparable to his animatronic peers, who were still fully active during the events of Ruin, which happens weeks, maybe even months after the Security Breach ending. All that without a single charge. Freddy could simply keep on fighting for all that time. This is a level of stamina no organic lifeform could match. He also doesn't suffer. I'll focus on the two best examples of this: Montgomery Gator and Roxanne Wolf.
Monty was torn in half, fell like 20 feet straight into the floor, was forced to crawl everywhere, had to go around the debris from the Pizzaplex collapsing around him, lost all of his skin from having to drag himself everywhere, and then got electrocuted in the water, being literally fried to death. However, up to that point, nothing had stopped his resolve… his sheer determination to… maul children to death. (He was mind controlled, okay? Give him a break.) A similar situation applies to Roxy. Roxanne was hit straight in the face by a flying Go-Kart, also had to maneuver around the collapsing Pizzaplex, was ran over and crushed by a forklift, was ACTUALLY DEACTIVATED by Cassie, but still managed to turn herself back on and throw hands with the Mimic, who's probably the biggest powerhouse in the FNAF franchise as of right now, ripping apart human and metal arms and crushing heads like they're made of cardboard.
And Freddy scales to all that. He has the same type of Endoskeleton. So you might now understand why Sulley has no shot here. His chances of landing a lucky killing blow in a robot as sturdy as this are one in a krillion. Hell, Freddy is a pacifist, so if he wanted, he could just avoid Sulley or tank his attacks for a few minutes and then… Snap his neck when he's exhausted and can't fight back. The odds of James doing anything actually life threatening to Fazbear are minimal.
With all of this in mind, Freddy takes this category as well.
So, who wins?
There's a legend that this matchup was one day very debatable, but when considering all factors, there is one very clear winner here. His greater stats put him beyond the point of oneshotting and speedblitzing, meaning that Sulley wouldn't even be able to see Freddy, and one punch would seal his fate.
With his non-human physiology, he could run circles around Sullivan as much as he likes, or even just let him hit him. It won't make a difference. Nothing Sulley can do puts down Freddy for good. He lacks ANYTHING that Freddy can't either resist, match, or simply outclass with his own weapons.
Freddy isn't even relying solely on a hand to hand brawl, he could always just set Sulley on fire and grab him to make sure he doesn't put himself out. Game over. Good luck screaming away the flames that can burn a whole massive shopping mall with multiple floors in minutes. Freddy sure as shit isn't gonna be the one dying first. Sulley's best advantages are trivial at best, useless at worst. His best asset, great stealth acquired through years of training, is made irrelevant because of Roxy's eyes.
This was a very interesting matchup to research, but overall, Sulley doesn't put up much of a fight. Even if you brought up their games to give him more weapons, or made both of them equal in stats, Freddy's other advantages make that irrelevant. Doesn't matter how you slice it, Freddy is getting the win regardless.
Sulley better savor the taste of his last pepperoni, because he's taking the stage for one night only.
The winner is Glamrock Freddy.

Heh, this MU, I helped researched for Sully which was fun, watching Monsters Inc and Monsters U again made me feel very nostalgic.
Now the debate… yeah Freddy Wins, Sully loses in way too many categories and his Arsenal doesn’t really help considering he has like… 1 weapon and his power set compared to Freddy’s is kinda lacking, Freddy just has all of the advantages
So yeah, I’d say Glamrock Freddy wins… also, ye, I’ll be coming back for sure.
Ishi_Yuki
Oh, boy, Glamrock Freddy vs Sulley. Match-up goes wild, make me go like this:
(Cringy stuff but I wanted an excuse to use that GIF)
But I really like this match-up and it's my preferred for both too (idc about Shrek). Really thankful for being part of this little blog, and without further ado, let's get to the debate…
…which is not that fair at all.
You see, Sulley actually has better experience and yeah, better close ranged weapons, but he falls short in every other thing. Freddy is undeniably stronger and more durable, because heck, Sulley does have some disappointing feats. And the fact Freddy is way faster, has way better arsenal at his disposal, and can counter his stealth (which is one of his best stuff), proves that Sulley can't beat him at all. And Freddy's better physiology, stamina and endurance should be enough to keep Sulley down.
I don't have much to say more, Glamrock Freddy should pretty easily win here. See you guys next time!
Final Tally
Team Freddy (3)
